"GOD'S Compassion For Israel { 1:1-5 }. . .

A . . . GOD'S Compassion Declared { 1:1-2a }. . ."

( 1 ). { V. 2 } Scripture: "I have loved you, says the LORD,

B ... GOD'S Compassion Doubted { 1:1-2b }. . . .

( 2 ). Yet you say, Wherein have You Loved us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the LORD: "yet I loved Jacob.

C . . . GOD'S Compassion Demonstrated { 1:3-5 }. . .

( 3 ). { V. 3 }: "And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of 'the wilderness [ of Edom' ], { Malachi 1:2-3 },"

( 4 ). The above { Vs. 2-3 } paraphrased below in commentary form . . .

( 5 ). { 2 }: "I have loved you, says the LORD. Yet you ask, in what and how have You loved us? ... Isn't it true that Esau was Jacob's brother?: says the LORD"; [ and the LORD JEHOVAH goes on to say ]: "yet I loved Jacob: [ whose name was especially changed to Israel [ by JEHOVAH GOD Himself" ].

( 6 ). { 3 }: [ But, says JEHOVAH: in comparison with the degree of love I have for Jacob ... "Israel" ]: 'I have hated [ Jacob's twin brother ] Esau' [ known as "Edom" the father of the Edomite kingdom ], and have laid waste his mountains, and his heritage I have given to the jackals of the wilderness." Read also { Romans 9:13, - & - 16. }

( 7 ). Commentary . . . You know, this is a beautiful way to begin a book. GOD says to Israel, "I have loved you." This is the message of GOD to man throughout the Bible. GOD loves you! We read the heart of the entire Bible in the next verse as follows . . .

( 8 ). Scripture: "For GOD so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten SON, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life, { John 3:16 }."

( 9 ). The above { V. 16 } paraphrased in commentary form . . . "For GOD so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He even gave up His only begotten [ unique GODLY SON JESUS the eternal CHRIST ], so that whoever will believe in [ trusts, clings to, and relies on ] CHRIST JESUS [ for salvation ] 'shall NEVER perish - come to destruction, become lost' - but will have eternal [ everlasting ] life." . . . Read { Romans 8:35-39 }.

( 10 ). Commentary . . . But Malachi writes of a particular love, or place in GOD'S heart, that He has for Israel. I know that many people are Jew haters and many of them are wondering how GOD could love a Jew. Naturally He loves them because . . . "He is GOD!"

( 11 ). Many times the Jewish people have been lied about, and wholeheartedly blamed for planning to destroy the world; how they have control of the world's money; how they started Communism; how they cheat others out of their life savings, and etc. . . .

( 12 ). I won't argue with you or debate the issue. There are wicked and evil Jews just as there are wicked and evil Gentiles. But if GOD could love me when I was a lost sinner and send His SON to die in my place, then He could certainly love the Jews! We read . . .

( 13 ). { V. 7 } Scripture: "For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die."

( 14 ). { V. 8 }: "But GOD commands His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, CHRIST died for us, { "Romans 5:7-8 }."

( 15 ). The above { Vs. 7-8 } paraphrased below in commentary form . . .

( 16 ). { 7 }: "Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man or woman, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor some one might even dare to die."

( 17 ). { 8 }: "But GOD shows and clearly proves 'His [ Own' ] love for us by the fact that while we were still [ unsaved ] sinners CHRIST, the MESSIAH, the ANOINTED ONE, died for us."

( 18 ). { V. 4 } Scripture: "But GOD, Who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us",

( 19 ). { V. 5 }: "Even when we were dead in sins, has 'quickened [ made alive' ] us together with CHRIST" ...,

( 20 ). { V. 6 }: "And 'has raised us up together and made us sit together in Heavenly places in CHRIST JESUS, { Ephesians 2: 4 - 6 }."

( 21 ). The above { Vs. 4-6 } paraphrased below in commentary form . . .

( 22 ). { 4 }: "But GOD! So rich is He in His mercy! Because of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love with which He loved us",

( 23 ). { 5 }: "Even when we were 'dead [ slain' ] by [ our own ] shortcomings and trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with CHRIST JESUS. - He gave us the very life of CHRIST Himself, the same new life with which He quickened Him. [ For: ] it is by Grace - i.e., by His favor and mercy which you did not deserve - that you are saved [ delivered from judgment and made partakers of CHRIST'S SALVATION ]."

( 24 ). { 6 }: "And He raised us up together with CHRIST and made us sit down together - giving us joint seating with Him - 'in the Heavenly sphere [ past tense 'at the very moment we were saved' ], in CHRIST JESUS, the MESSIAH, the ANOINTED ONE."

( 25 ). Commentary . . . Thus, if GOD could love wicked "heathen Gentiles" before they were saved so much that He sent JESUS to die in their place, then He could love the Jews. And it is not a question of reason; it is simply a matter of taking GOD at His Word.

( 26 ). GOD said of the Jews that He would bless those that would bless them, and curse those that curses them. Read { Genesis 27:29 }. GOD said He would chastise the Jew when they needed it, but anyone else had better keep hands off his chosen people and nation.

( 27 ). It is like you going over to your neighbour's yard to spank one of his children. Even though the child might need spanking, you will more then likely return with a black eye. No one has ever mistreated the Jews and gotten away with it, sooner or later Jew haters will pay a price!

( 28 ). Commentary . . . After the LORD sets forth the declaration of His love for Israel, in verse two a hypothetical question is introduced. GOD says that He has told Israel that He loved them, some of them say, "Wherein have You loved us?"

( 29 ). The word "Wherein" is found seven times in Malachi and seven is the number of completion, or perfection. "Wherein" simply means "when and where did you do this," or "give us a specific example."

( 30 ). And in Malachi, we find seven specific illustrations from GOD revealing His plan and purpose for the nation of Israel from its beginning to the time when all the land promised to them will be given to them for an everlasting inheritance.

( 31 ). So the Jews want a specific example of GOD'S love for themselves, and GOD says "Well, let us go back to the very beginning of the nation of Israel." . . .

( 32 ). There were two brothers, Esau and Jacob. I 'loved Jacob [ whose name was changed to Israel' ] and hated Esau [ Jacob's twin brother ] and Jacob became the father of the nation of Israel." Read { Malachi 1:2-3 }.

( 33 ). Thus, we see that GOD loved Israel from the very beginning. Abraham was the first Hebrew, but Jacob the first Israelite, and GOD chose Jacob rather than Esau.

( 34 ). In { V. 3 } GOD says that He proved His love wherein the 'heritage of Jacob, the Hebrews', was blessed, and the 'heritage of Esau, which was Edom, became barren and a wasteland'.

( 35 ). Much of Edom around the city of Petra was at one time a great trade and commercial center, but because GOD chose Jacob over his brother Esau, it became a dead city. Of course, present day Jordan comprises much of the northern part of old Edom, but we read as GOD continues . . .

( 36 ). { V. 4 } Scripture: "Whereas Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down: and they shall call them, the border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation for ever."

( 37 ). { V. 5 }: "And your eyes shall see, and you shall say, The LORD shall be magnified from the border of Israel, { Malachi 1:4-5 }."

( 38 ). The above { Vs. 4-5 } paraphrased below in commentary form . . .

( 39 ). { 4 }: "Whereas Edom says, We are impoverished, but [ and ] 'we [ are very much beaten down', but 'we ] will return and build the [ waste and ] desolate places again'; . . . [ 'therefore, ] the LORD of hosts [ states' ]: They may build again, but I will tear down and throw down, and men shall call the people in that wicked country, the border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has 'indignation [ righteous anger' ]: for ever."

( 40 ). { 5 }: "And your eyes shall 'see [ this' ], and you shall say, 'The LORD [ is great and ] shall be magnified [ over and beyond' ] the border of Israel, { Malachi 1:4-5 }." Read { Isaiah Ch. 34; - 63:1-6; - Jeremiah 49:7-22; - Ezekiel 25:12-14; - & - Obadiah 1. }

( 41 ). Commentary . . . GOD says that even though much of Edom has been resettled today and the desolate places re-inhabited, that He will throw down the buildings in that part of Jordan which compasses old Edom.

( 42 ). GOD says that He has an indignation against this people and this land that will never be abated, and we read in { Ezekiel Ch. 38 and 39 } that this area will become a graveyard for the armies of the Arab, Muslim and Communist nations when they come against Israel in the tribulation Period.

( 43 ). Thus, it will be as GOD prophesied, a place of everlasting desolation. And GOD says He will do this to show the world that He loves Israel and that He desires to be glorified in the land of Israel. Again GOD proved His love for Israel and brought them out of Egypt. We read . . .

( 44 ). Scripture: "But 'because the LORD loved you [ people of the tribes of the Hebrews' ], and because He would keep the oath which He had sworn unto your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of 'bondmen [ and bondage of the Egyptians', ] from the house of Pharaoh king of Egypt, { Deuteronomy 7:8 }."

( 45 ). Commentary . . . GOD has proven His love for Israel a thousand time over and because He loves the Jews, He is right now, this very day slowly returning them back from all nations in preparation for the fulfillment of the prophecies which Malachi and other prophets have recorded in their Epistles.

( 46 ). In the first five verses of Malachi we learned that the book is identified as the Word of the LORD; it was written to Israel and to Israel alone; and the human recorder was the prophet Malachi.

( 47 ). GOD first declared to Israel that He loved them, and Israel replies, "Wherein have You loved us?" And GOD answers their question by going back to the very beginning of Israel.

( 48 ). GOD pointed out that He loved Jacob, the forefather of Israel, rather than Jacob's twin brother Esau, and it is also pointed out that through Esau, or Edom, the people descended from Esau commences to build up their own heritage. GOD lets them know with out a doubt that even though they build it up from a waste-land He will tear it down!

( 49 ). As we have brought out ..., Today, about half of the southern part of Jordan comprises part of the northern part of old Edom, and we know from this prophecy that much of present day Jordan will become desolate and waste in the coming battle between Russia and Israel.

( 50 ). Therefore, GOD continues to inform Israel, that regardless of their attitude toward Him, He would bring them under His power, and His Name will be glorified and magnified from the borders of Israel unto the whole earth.

( 51 ). Continuing now and reading { V. 6 }, of the first chapter of Malachi . . .

GOD'S Complaint Against Israel, { 1:6 - to 3:15 }. ...

Cheating, { 1:6-14 }. ...

( 52 ). Scripture: "A son honours his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, 'where is my honor [ i.e., the reverence due Me?' ] and if I be a Master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, that despise My name. And you say, wherein have we despised Your name? { Malachi 1:6 }."

( 53 ). Commentary . . . GOD speaks to Israel again and says "You address Me as FATHER, but you neither honor nor fear Me." A son honours his earthly father, and a servant, or as we would say today, an employee, honours his master or employer.

( 54 ). "But Israel as hypocrites while professing GOD as FATHER despises His name." These are strong words, and we must keep in mind that the prophecies of Malachi have an 'end time [ future tense' ] setting.

( 55 ). There is one thing that was of primary concern to the prophets as they were burdened by GOD to prophesy, and that was the fulfilling of the covenants whereby the Millennial Kingdom promised by GOD would become a reality.

( 56 ). All prophecy in reference to Israel looks forward to the Day Of The LORD. The burden of Malachi's prophecy was preparing Israel for this Great Day, as we read in chapter 4.

( 57 ). Prophecy in relation to Israel means the preparation of a people to inherit a Kingdom on earth. Prophecy in relation to the BODY OF CHRIST for today looks forward to the Rapture in which a prepared people will be called out of the world to a heavenly heritage.

( 58 ). I read an article in the paper where church membership had dropped in every major denomination except the Southern Baptist Denominations and the Mormon Denomination. And why is church attendance dropping?

( 59 ). Because the Denominations are trying to claim the promises of GOD made to Israel. They are trying to make a better world through socialism, and the LORD never told the present Denominations to make a better world.

( 60 ). GOD informed the BODY OF CHRIST that the world would get worse and worse so Christians were not to become entangled in political enterprises because we are Heavenly entities not earthly. In other words, the BODY OF CHRIST'S home is in Heaven, we are only sojourners, and visitors while here on this earth. But the lost "heathen, i.e., and or Gentiles, which is synonymous" - as Scripture calls them, are worldly and this earth is their home, and Satan is their earthly god, as long as they stay in an unsaved condition.

( 61 ). But getting back to our Scriptures in Malachi, GOD speaks to Israel and tells them that though they profess to be His people, they pay Him no honor as their heavenly FATHER.

( 62 ). You know, we wonder what is wrong with the world today - children disobedient to parents; rebellion on our campuses; breakdown of the family unit.

( 63 ). Parents today blame themselves and every effort is made to lay the guilt for what is happening on society. But GOD told us this would happen, and the Bible also instructs us that it is not always because it is anything you parents, or any of us, specifically have done. Although, the Bible also instructs parents to "Train up a child in the way he should go,

Proverbs 22:6 }." "The trouble is, even though many children are trained this way. . . after they grow up - many of them ignore their past training!

( 64 ). In this last day of this present Dispensation - many in the younger generation is rebelling against GOD. They ignore the fact that it was GOD Who joined the first man and the first women in marriage.

( 65 ). It was GOD Who ordained the family unit as the bases for all social order, all political stability and national existence.

( 66 ). It was GOD Himself Who ordained the law of capital punishment, and said that men and women should not commit adultery or fornication.

( 67 ). It was GOD Who said that children should honor their fathers and mothers. So the younger generation today are not rebelling against their parents as a whole, but of course many do.

( 68 ). On the other hand, multitudes of humanity are rebelling against GOD in many ways and this isn't a new thing, this has been going on ever since Cain murdered Able.

( 69 ). Today, it seems that it's just as it was when Israel went against the prophet Samuel's wishes and demanded a king to be enthroned in Israel. JEHOVAH spoke to Samuel and told him that he should not take it so personally, because the people were actually rebelling against the LORD Himself.

( 70 ). And, this is what JEHOVAH here in Malachi says of Israel, and with special reference to these last days, that they would deny Him and despise His name - and thus it would show in their deeds and actions.

( 71 ). But according to the previous verses, GOD ALMIGHTY is working out His will in Israel right now at this very hour, in spite of the unbelief of the average Jewish people.

( 72 ). Before we close this lesson, someone may have noticed that in { V. 25 } above we have called 'Gentiles heathen.' This is because that is what the Bible calls them! To prove this . . .

( 73 ). [ 1 ] - Scripture: "The LORD 'WILL' be terrible to them: for He will famish all the gods of the earth; and men shall worship Him, everyone from his place, even 'all the isles [ lands ] of the HEATHEN" . . ., read also { Zephaniah 2:11 }. . . .

( 74 ). [ 2 ] - Scripture: "And 'I WILL' overthrow the throne of kingdoms, and 'I WILL' destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the 'HEATHEN;' and 'I WILL' overthrow the chariots, and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, every one by the sword of his brother" . . ., read { Haggai 2:22 }." . . .

( 75 ). [ 3 ] - Scripture: "And I am very sore displeased with the 'HEATHEN' that are at ease: for I was just a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction, [ that is, helped for evil, they went to far in helping the various nations to destroy Israel. Both 'past tense' and 'future tense' ], { Zechariah 1:15 }." Read also { Zechariah 8:13; }. . . .

( 76 ). [ 4 ] - { V. 14 } Scripture: "And Judah also 'shall fight at Jerusalem [ future tense' ]; and the wealth of 'ALL The HEATHEN [ i.e., Gentiles' ] round about shall be gathered together, 'gold, and silver [ i.e., the riches of the Gentile nations of this world' ] and clothing, in great abundance" . . .,

( 77 ). { V. 15 }: And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in all these tents, as the plague, { Zechariah 14:14-15 }, [ Future tense ]." Read { Acts 4:25 - & - 2- Corinthians 11:26 }. Paul said . . .

( 78 ). [ 5 ] - Scripture: "To reveal His [ GOD'S ] Son 'in [ i.e., from' ] me, that I might preach 'Him [ CHRIST' ] among the 'HEATHEN [ GENTILES' ]; immediately I conferred not with 'flesh and blood [ i.e., with other people' ], { Galatians 1:16 }."

( 79 ). [ 6 ] - Scripture: "And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship; that we should go to the 'HEATHEN [ GENTILES' ], and 'they to the Circumcision [ Jews' ], { Galatians 2:9 }."

( 80 ). [ 7 ] - Scripture: "And the Scriptures, foreseeing that GOD would justify the 'HEATHEN [ GENTILES' ] through faith, preached before the Gospel unto Abraham, saying, in you shall all nations be blessed, { Galatians 3:8 }."

( 81 ). The fact is, If they - the 'HEATHEN [ GENTILES' ] would eventually come to the knowledge of CHRIST and accept Him by faith plus nothing else, they would be forever saved just like you and I! We will talk about the heathen further on in our message ]. What more proof do you need to prove that Christians are no longer Gentiles or heathenistic after becoming GOD'S Children? Read the difference in the three types of people on this earth in { 1- Corinthians 10:32 }.
